4th Annual School Supply Drive

Categories: Events, News | Posted: July 19, 2012 | Comments Off

Last year Baxter residents came together and donated a plethora of school supplies for needy Fort Mill school children. Due to the generous support of this community we were able to donate 47 filled backpacks for high schoolers. In addition, we were able to give the Fort Mill Care Center 14 empty backpacks PLUS an estimated 675 pounds of additional supplies for needy children throughout our community!

Once again this year Helping Hands is working directly with the Fort Mill Care Center and we have identified a “short list” of critical items that the Center is hoping to get. From July 15 – 28th our Helping Hands captains will be collecting school supplies. Look for the blue bins on our cluster captain front porches and at the Community Center. You can also drop off your items with our two new partners: Six Pence Pub & Champion TaeKwonDo. Thank you for your support!

Through the generosity of the entire Fort Mill community, elementary and middle school aged children have typically been fully stocked for school but supplies for high schoolers are not as plentiful. To make up for this deficit, we are asking our Baxter neighbors to concentrate on high school children as they do their shopping. While all donations are welcome, the Fort Mill Care Center reports the most pressing need for the following items:

Backpacks
1” & 2” – 3 Ring Binders
College Ruled Notebook paper
(need lots of this!!)
Pencils & Pencil Top Erasers
Pens (blue, black and red)
Highlighters
Pocket Folders
Book Covers
Composition Books
Index Cards (3 x 5)
Pencil Pouches (not boxes)
Flash Drives
Hand Sanitizer

On July 28th we will be hosting a “Backpack Stuffing Day” at Village Hall from 1-3 pm. Please feel free to bring your children for a fun, rewarding time!
