Santa for Seniors
5th Annual Assembly Day presented by the Helping Hands of Baxter. In partnership with The York County Council on Aging, it will be our goal to reach out to the senior population of York County who are often overlooked. Seniors make up 13.7% of the total population (national average is 12.9%). The poverty rate for people age 65 and over is approximately 10.2%. Last year, a group of volunteers, including children, visited the Fort Mill Nutrition Center housed at Unity Presbyterian Church to deliver the packages, sing carols and visit with the clients during their holiday party. For many of the YCCOA clients, this will be the only package they have to open on Christmas morning. The YCCOA has 4 nutrition centers in York county that service approximately 180 clients daily as well as services for approximately 300 homebound clients. Our goal this year is to hand deliver a package to each client at the ALL 4 nutrition centers. We are focusing our efforts this year to best meet the needs of this population. We are asking for donations of the top 5 needed hygiene items in FULL SIZE quantities. We will NOT be able to use travel size donations or shoeboxes this year. The Dollar Tree is a great place to get the largest size for the best price!
Collection Dates: Nov. 1st – 16th (Community Center, Village Hall,
Six Pence Pub, Champion TKD, Hall Chiropractic & Brightway Insurance)
Assembly Day: Saturday | Nov. 17th 1 – 3 pm (Village Hall)
HYGIENE ITEMS | Items needed are: shampoo, body wash/soap, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes
PERSONAL ITEMS | We would also like to include one personal item per package. The personal item could be gloves, a scarf, a devotional book, puzzle books, stationary, a calendar, tea bags, coffee mugs, a figurine, etc. Think about something nice that you would like to receive!
Assemble a package at home | Can’t join us? Just pack your own gift bag and deliver it filled with goodies to one of our drop off locations before November 17th so that we can take it with all the others!
